One reason for this happening is display's effectiveness is questionable. It always has been. Now, numbers are starting to show that its value is limited. Thanks to a report from Forrester we know only 40% of the display ads running in 2016 were seen by consumers, and in turn, advertisers ended up wasting $7.4 billion.
