Instagram Becomes a Default
The best $1 billion ever spent may be when Facebook acquired Instagram. In two years, the photo-sharing platform has doubled its monthly active user numbers, which now sit at 700 million.
What was once just an up-start, Instagram quickly became Facebook’s answer to its mobile problem. It was criticized at the time as being too desktop-focused, and Instagram became a means to that mobile end. In the meantime, it became a stalwart in Facebook’s suite of products, which also include WhatsApp and Messenger.
